Wisteria is a flower symbolizing undying love. Besides being a symbol of love, the wisteria flower is also a symbol of luck and fortune. Wisteria is a genus of flowering plants in the legume family, consisting of 10 species of woody vines native to the eastern United States, China, Korea, and Japan.

After being imported to Vietnam, Wisteria plants grown from seeds grow well with climatic conditions, however, due to their "hibernation" characteristics, Wisteria has a deciduous season before and after the Lunar New Year. Therefore, the most appropriate technique for planting and caring for wisteria flowers is still around March or April every year.

Soil and living conditions

Wisteria grows mainly in cool climates, is very cold tolerant, difficult to grow at high temperatures. The tree is not picky about soil, grows well on barren soil, likes sunlight. When planting, make sure the location has full sun. Because sunlight is essential for plants to flower and develop best.

Technique of growing wisteria flowers

Before proceeding with the technique of growing wisteria, you need to make the seeds germinate. The best time to start sowing seeds is early summer, depending on the growing area. Before sowing, soak the seeds at a temperature of 50-60 degrees Celsius for about 4 hours and keep them moist for the next 20 hours.

After the seeds have been soaked, remove them from the water. Prepare a pot with a flat, well-humused soil. Sprinkle with seeds, cover with a thin layer of soil to expose to morning sun. Use a spray bottle daily to keep the soil moist. The seeds will germinate in a few days or weeks. Then plant the plant in a porous soil consisting of rice husk ash, coco peat, nutrient-rich and aerated humus soil, leaving the seeds in a place with plenty of light.

Once the seeds have germinated and sprouted, you can separate them and plant them in separate pots. After 3-7 days, the seedlings will grow, it is best to plant the wisteria in the ground for the best growth. In the first month, if planting in the soil, the tree can climb 2-3m if the soil is rich in nutrients, aerated and sunny.

Wisteria has the advantage of fast growing, pure with environmental climate and good growth, but it takes 4-5 years to flower.

Caring for wisteria plants

If your soil is in poor condition, add compost; If not fertile, wisteria will still grow in most soils. Flowers will appear in early summer, so they are also called summer flowers. In Spring or Autumn, the tree needs good care.

Use a spray bottle daily to keep the soil moist. Wisteria tree grows fast, pure with environmental climate and grows well. In the first month, if planted in the ground, the tree can even climb 2-3m if it meets the conditions for nutrition and light. However, it takes 2-3 years to flower.

Each spring, apply a layer of organic fertilizer near the base of the plant. Should cover a layer of plastic around the base of the tree to protect the plant from growing weeds and keep the tree moist. Add NPK to support flowering.

How to prune to make wisteria bloom more flowers?

Prune the wisteria in late winter. Remove at least half of the previous year's growth, leaving only a few buds per stem. If you want a more floral appearance, prune again in the summer after annual flowering.

To get more blooms, try to cut back the rampant shoots every two weeks during the summer. In subsequent years, cut the main stem or stem 90cm larger than the length of the previous season's branches. When this framework is the standard size, shorten growth and expand further in midsummer to flower time and we have begun to admire a new blooming season.

For a full-fledged tree, cut the top back 15cm in summer, then shorten in winter to 3 buds. Freshly cut shoots can take several years to flower.
